To be honest, I was a bit dubious as the surroundings don't appear to be the best from the street. But it was a last minute booking and since we didn't want to pay $400plus for a family room for the night, we decided to pick City Centre Budget Hotel because of the price. I thought it was going to possibly be horrible and the entrance didn't dissuade me, but the lady at reception was lovely, friendly and helpful. The shared facililies were dated but impeccably clean and stocked. The beds were super comfortable, sheets spotless and clean and we had a very comfortable stay. These were by far cleaner and more comfortable than some of the more upmarket hotels I have stayed at in the past. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone to who needs to stay in the city and is after a cheap and very comfortable stay. I am very pleased to say I was completely wrong about City Centre Budget Hotel.
Possibly the entrance could be more inviting and done up a bit (doesn't need to be fancy, just updated).
The windows opened for fresh air Close to parks and great selection of eating out options Book shop open tope end Bourke St late night Location and the Spring ambience
No where to put clothes during shower Is there cooling for summer? More coffee, tea bags and milk would have been good
Friendly, helpful staff. Able to store luggage post-check out
Shower and toilet in same space meaning toilet roll gets damp
this hotel is very secure, staff very helpfull and friendly. Rooms and bathrooms are very clean. You can even cook at the rooftop . If I come back to melbourne, i will come back to this hotel.
Central location/close to trams & trains/ comfortable,clean bed/friendly staff
A lift would be good (but probably not possible); also a hand basin in the room - save having to go to the bathroom just to wash hands or to fill jug.
Cheap, clean, friendly, great location.
Hearing bottle bins getting emptied at 7am
It was a good value for money. The hotel is a bit old fashioned but it was clean and had all the basic facilities. The kitchen was on the roof top terrace which is very nice if the weather is good. The shared showers and toilets are actually shared among the whole corridor and there are no separate facilities for males and females, but they were kept clean and tidy. The location of the hotel is very good, it's close to the Flinders and Central station, we even managed to walk from there, and there's a bus stop for the free tourist shuttle right around the corner.
There was no lift, which might be a problem for someone travelling with a heavy suitcase.
Overall is good in term of services and cleanliness.
The bathroom/toilet. No door and cover. Feel lack of privacy.
bed was very comfortable. Room was fresh and clean. Very quick and easy check in and out. Friendly staff. Ideally located in the CBD
The kitchenette on the roof and lack of proper laundry facilities, just a washer and dryer stacked on each other in the kitchenette. The shared bathrooms lacked any ventillation and had no shower curtains so everything got wet. Also, it needs to be identified that there is substantial building work going on right outside which starts VERY early in the morning.
Room was clean and comfortable, Wi Fi, Bars food close by in the lane behind the hotel
Rooftop was groty needs some TLC Could be a feature of the hotel if renovated
The location and the price kitchen and bathroom facilities with our room. Computer with wifi available for public use Comfortable beds
noise from construction nearby.. (not fault of City Centre BH) Smoke from other patrons smoking outside wafted into our room at night- windows need to be open for comfort on warm nights. There is no air conditioning which could make for a hot stay in summer.
To the staff at City Centre Budget Hotel I wish to extend my thanks, they were very courteous and helpful. The hotel was well managed, very clean, tidy and well serviced (excellent Internet access). The bathrooms while shared were fabulous, lovely showers. Our stay at the City Centre Budget Hotel made my holiday back to Melbourne City after a 19 year absence an absolute pleasure. I especially loved the rooftop, where I spent many hours reading and sipping coffee as I taking in the city. I will definitely stay at this hotel again and will recommend it highly to others.
The stairs took a few days to get used to but certainly supported our developing fitness. Just a recommendation especially for older people or those with health conditions that they make a connection with the hotel to ensure accommodation on the first floor. During our stay when we approached staff about moving our room to first floor they were more than happy to accommodate our move.
Excellent friendly service from reception. They gave us good tips about travel around the city and even lent us an umbrella on a miserable rainy day! Good location and excellent value for money.
Ladies toilet ran out of paper early in the morning but apart from that everything else was great!
The location was very good
I stayed for three nights, and the room was not cleaned or serviced for the complete duration of my stay. No replacement of tea/coffee making supplies.
Location. It was very close to the cebtral business district and very handy for the train station. Free internet.
My room faced on to a car park and was very noisy. Quite bizarrly, my room had a fridge (but no other methods of cooking or food stoarge or anything to do with catering). Made the mistake of putting fruit etc in there. Was frozen solid the next day and this was with the fridge at the minimum setting.
